LLM SEO: Make Content Clearer for AI-Assisted Discovery

LLM SEO is not a secret tag or shortcut for being named in ChatGPT or an AI search answer. It is the work of making a site’s information accessible, accurate, original, clearly organised, and supported by sources people can check. These qualities can make a page easier to retrieve and assess. They do not promise rankings, traffic, or qualified enquiries.

The Ahrefs Morocco estimate, 22 October 2026 records monthly volume of 10–20 each for the French cluster “référencement ChatGPT”, “SEO IA”, and “LLM SEO”. It is a demand estimate, not a forecast. Can people and search systems find, understand, and verify important information?

What LLM SEO means in practice

LLM SEO, AEO (answer engine optimisation), and GEO (generative engine optimisation) are labels for work intended to improve discoverability in experiences that compose answers from web sources. They are not a replacement for SEO. Google says ordinary SEO best practices remain relevant to AI Overviews and AI Mode, with no extra technical requirements or special optimisation required to appear there (Google Search Central).

The aim is to answer a genuine question with evidence, context, and limits visible on the source page. A system may use different sources or show no source from a given domain.

Check the technical foundation before rewriting copy

Google says a page must be indexed and eligible to be shown with a snippet in Google Search to be eligible as a supporting link in its AI features. Meeting that threshold does not oblige a search system to crawl, index, or serve the page (Google guidance). Review each priority URL:

  1. Access and indexability. Check Search Console, HTTP responses, redirects, canonical signals, noindex, and accidental blocks in robots.txt, a CDN, or a firewall.
  2. Crawlable discovery. Reach priority pages through conventional HTML internal links. An XML sitemap cannot replace internal links.
  3. Available text. Do not place key definitions, conditions, and answers only in images, untranscribed video, or inaccessible JavaScript interactions.
  4. Consistent URLs and languages. Avoid duplicate variants or translated copies without sound canonical and language handling. Keep entity names, page purpose, and headings aligned.
  5. A readable experience. A visitor should quickly find the direct answer, its context, and the next useful action.

These checks are part of sound SEO work in Morocco.

Crawler controls are editorial choices

Different bots have different purposes. OpenAI documents that OAI-SearchBot is used to surface sites in ChatGPT search features, whereas GPTBot crawls content that may be used to train foundation models; their robots.txt controls are independent (OpenAI crawler documentation). Allowing one does not automatically allow the other.

The decision belongs with editorial, technical, and content-policy owners. In Google Search, nosnippet, data-nosnippet, max-snippet, and noindex can restrict displayed text or indexation and limit material available to its AI features (Google controls). They implement a publishing policy, not a visibility switch.

Write pages that are clear and independently verifiable

Start with a focused reader question: what should someone know, compare, or prepare after reading? State the answer early, then provide conditions, steps, exceptions, and sources. Descriptive headings keep useful information out of a long introduction.

Google’s generative-search guidance prioritises original, helpful, people-first content. It highlights non-commodity value, a distinct experience or point of view, and organisation that helps a reader rather than scaled page production (Google’s generative AI guide). Turn that into editorial rules:

  • define the audience, service, and scope before making a recommendation;
  • substantiate a method, generic example, or decision criterion;
  • cite external statistics, definitions, and rules at their source;
  • state what can vary by client context, tool, configuration, or date;
  • review AI-assisted material for accuracy, evidence, confidentiality, and original value.

A visible FAQ should answer genuine questions, not repeat keyword variants. Structured data must match the visible page.

Improve the right pages without creating a page farm

Do not start with an endless list of conversational variations. Prioritise pages that explain a service, compare approaches, detail a step, clarify a constraint, or answer a recurrent objection. A digital strategy helps business and editorial teams choose priorities instead of relying on a keyword tool alone.

CriterionDecision question
IntentDoes the page answer an identifiable question before presenting the offer?
EvidenceIs every important claim traceable to a source, method, or documented experience?
SpecificityDoes it add more than a generic restatement?
MaintenanceCan a named owner revise it when tools or rules change?

Avoid mass-producing near-duplicate URLs or buying mentions. Bing bases eligibility across its search, Copilot, and grounding experiences on discovery, indexation, quality, and clear structure (Bing Webmaster Guidelines).

Measure signals; do not manufacture causality

Google says performance in its AI features is included in Search Console’s web-search data. Track pages, queries, impressions, clicks, and useful actions. Our tracking and analytics service can connect events, consent, and objectives without relabelling every interaction as a lead.

Bing Webmaster Tools aggregates cited pages and grounding queries, but Bing says this does not measure ranking, authority, or traffic (Bing AI Performance). Use it to inspect a topic or URL, not as proof of causality. Log dates, URLs, sources, indexation, technical changes, and signals.

Limits to keep visible

AI-assisted answers vary by query, language, user, available data, and product updates. Indexation does not automatically make a page selected, cited, or clicked; a citation does not explain what a user does next. Interfaces, policies, and reports change, so check primary documentation before technical decisions.

FAQ — LLM SEO, ChatGPT, and AI search discoverability

Is LLM SEO different from conventional SEO?

It mainly uses the same foundations: accessible content, indexable pages, internal links, useful information, and reliable sources. Google sets no special requirements for its AI features. AEO and GEO can label a project, but they do not justify undocumented tactics.

Should we allow every AI bot in robots.txt?

No. Bots have different purposes. Document the relevant agents and the rules the organisation actually wants. OpenAI distinguishes OAI-SearchBot for search from GPTBot for training. Test every change with the technical team.

How do we know whether a page was used in an AI answer?

It depends on available platform reporting. Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools can provide aggregated signals in some contexts. Read them with indexation, click, and conversion data; a single citation is not a commercial outcome.
